(New!) Creating and Managing an Email Account in cPanel

To create an email account for your domain name in cPanel:

CREATING AN EMAIL ACCOUNT

 1. Login to the correct cPanel for your domain and select Email Accounts under the Email heading.

Note: you will see that there is already a POP email account, this is the Default Email Account or ‘system'. This is the main account that every hosting package comes with, and is the catch-all for all un-routed email that comes to your domain. This default account has no quota, and cannot be deleted. You can access the mailbox by selecting Check Email.

 2. Select +Create and input your username (the bit before @yourdomain.com.au)

Note: the username can be whatever you choose. Your name or an employee’s name can go here (e.g. Bob, Fred, Nancy) or a department name (e.g. sales, accounting, customerservice). It should be written as one word with no spaces.

 3. Set the password (ensure you can remember it and write it down or put it in a safe place) and select +Create.

Note: If you expand Optional settings, you may choose a preferred amount of storage space to allocate to that mailbox. If you give it a set limit of a certain number of MB, you will need to empty it out so often to ensure it doesn’t fill up. You will still need to empty it out if you choose to give it unlimited space, however this is more risky as if it fills up, you will use all your server space and this will cause issues for multiple mailboxes and will cause downtime to other services on your server. It is highly recommended you do not update your mailbox quota.

EMAIL ACCOUNT MAINTENANCE

Always ensure you delete any inbox, junk and spam emails you don’t need and then clear out your deleted folder to ensure you have free space. If your mailbox fills up you will receive warnings, and if it is unlimited, your cPanel services may stop working due to low space.

To manage an email account in cPanel:

CHANGING YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNT PASSWORD

In the Email Accounts page in cPanel, select Manage and enter a new password. Click Update Email Settings. You will not need your old email password to change it.

CHANGING YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNT QUOTA

In the Email Accounts page in cPanel, select Manage and change the Quota size. Click Update Email Settings. You will not need your old email password to change it.

Warning: if you give your mailbox a large amount of or unlimited storage, it risks causing issues and downtime to all services on your server if it fills up. It is highly recommended you do not update your mailbox quota.

DELETING YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNT

In the Email Accounts page in cPanel, select the down arrow next to the email address and select Delete twice.
